Halloween is coming – Is your Toddler old enough for Halloween?

Remember that when you introduce your toddler to Halloween, it is a totally new experience for him. Halloween is a holiday full of sights, sound, smells, tastes, and he is exposed to too much too quickly, he is likely to experience it as a sensory overload.

After all, the world itself is still a new place to a toddler.

But toddlers are naturally curious and inquisitive. And if you observe them carefully, they will let you know they are ready to experience the holiday.

Watch for him (or her) to start talking and asking questions. If she has an older sibling picking out a Halloween costume or otherwise preparing for the holiday she may try to mimic them.

You can expose him to the holiday by showing him Halloween picture books and letting her color Halloween coloring pages.

If you choose to take her trick-or-treating or other Halloween event, do it for a short period of time–before he gets tired or becomes overwhelmed.
